I have just bought a Vodafone Pay as you go USB modem stick online direct from Vodafone. After installing the software I was faced with “RAS error code 619” this was because the preloaded software was out of date. As a result of searching these forums I found the solution and downloaded the latest full version of the software. All is now working well – thank you. What I would like to do is update the software on the stick. The files are read only and I have been unable to change the file attributes in order to replace them.

Does anyone now how to update the preloaded software on these sticks? (I know I could add a memory card to the stick to carry the updated software but I would prefer not to do that). Alternatively is there a way of permanently disabling drive so the out of date software doesn’t try and install on other PC’s? Hey there rorun! Glad to hear that you've worked through and fixed your 619 issue - it can be bothersome when faced with connectivity issues such as this In terms of updating the modem firmware, I'd only ever recommend it if you need it, say, in the case of an OS incompatibility.

It won't update the performance or functionality of the modem as firmware does on phones, so there wouldn't be benefit in doing so if it's already working. I've checked for a firmware update for your model of modem, and we don't have any updates listed as of yet - it's still quite a newish model. When there is an update availabel, check out our page. Why not bookmark it for quick access? As for disabling the software on the modem, I'm afraid this won't be possible. I would suggest disabling Autoplay on any new computers you use it with as a workaround - other than this, the software does work on the vast majority of OS configurations, so it should allow basic internet access for you to connect and download the latest version.

The VMC will continue to refine, but as of yet, we have no plans to update the firmware on our modem range periodically with each release to keep the stored version current. Hi rorun, It is sometimes possible to update a modem's version of VMC Lite without upgrading the firmware, but quite often these two updates go hand-in-hand and one will not work without the other. At present there are no newer versions of VMC Lite, and we cannot give any timescales on when this is likely to change.

I do however know of a way to disable the built-in software which Daz clearly wasn't aware of If you go into Device Manager, and open up the USB Host Controllers section, you'll find an entry for a 'USB Mass Storage Device'. Microsoft office 2003 multilingual user interface pack download. This is the portion of the modem that acts as a CD drive.

Disabling this from the right-click menu will prevent the software from auto-launching. Please note however that you will need to ensure you always use the same USB port, as plugging it into a different port will create a new instance of the USB Mass Storage Device in Device Manager, and you'll need to disable it again for each USB port.
